2004 දෙසැම්බර් 26 මුහුද ගොඩ ගැලීමට හේතුවූ සුනාමි රළ මීගමුව වෙරළ තීරයට ළඟා වූයේ ඛෙහෙවින් මන්ද මන්දගාමී ස්වරූපයකිනි. ඒ වන විටත් මීගමුව වෙරළ ආශ්‍රිත ජනයා ආරක්ෂක ස්ථාන කරා ගොස් හමාරය. බොහෝ පිරිස් වෙරළට ඒමට තැත් දැරුවද මීගමුව පොලිසිය එයට හරස් වුනි. ජීවිත හානි වළක්වා ගැනීමට එයින් හැකිවිය. නමුත් සුනාමි රළ වෙරළාසන්න නිවාස ගොඩනැගිලි කීපයකට පහර දී කඩා බිඳ දමා ගියේ පවුල් දෙසීය පණහකට පමණ උන්හිටි තැන් අහිමි කරමිනි.

I have been watching a TV series called ‘Flip or Flop’ - a one-time staple on HGTV. In the series, real-world couple Tarek El Moussa and Christina Haack (now divorced) buy up properties in various conditions, and ‘flip’ them, giving them a modern facelift and unique design features to increase their value, and giving them a completely new lease of life. They then sell them on to become attractive homes for buyers. I rarely ever watch reality TV, but what draws me to this series is how with some passion, creativity and hard work, this team is able to completely turn around properties that are dilapidated and ‘written off’, into coveted real estate.

Ollie Robinson made his debut for England in the recently concluded 1st Test against New Zealand. He had an excellent outing, with a match haul of 7/101 and having scored 42 runs in the first innings. However, during the test, several racist and sexist tweets he had made in the past surfaced, and overshadowed his performance. He made a public apology after Day 1 of the Test, and has been suspended by the English Cricket Board (ECB) until a decision is taken on his conduct. The tweets concerned were posted in 2012 and 2013, when Robinson was a teenager.

For all Sri Lankans, but especially for Catholics and Christians, Easter can never be separated from the events of April 21st 2019. The Easter attacks claimed over 250 lives, injured many others, and devastated us all. Investigations into the attacks began at once and several suspects have been arrested since. There is no question that the perpetrators must be brought to justice. And if inaction by state and government officials was one reason they occurred, then they must be held responsible.
